Mission:
New Faces and Terror Beyond
Location: Hanger Bay
Zan was busy organising his department for the upcoming mission and he'd silently admit that it was good to get out of a fighter and into a shuttle for a change. Most pilots didn't care what they flew as long as it was themselves amongst the stars and in Zan's case he was no exception. Engineering was fabricating the shelters that needed to be lifted, they would be beamed down to the surface but the shuttles would be needed to move them into position and any other heavy lifting that needed to be done.
He'd not managed to catch much of Amanda recently since they got the orders but knew she had her hands full getting the marines in gear just like he was with his pilots. In his hand were the specs for the shelters, all in they were nearly 300kg in weight and came in panels, these panels could be moved with a group of individuals but some, especially the inner structure needed something more. Each would take about an hour to put up and there were several dozen of them going down to provide shelter for the men, women and children down there.
Dr Patrovski had requested a larger shelter be built for a medical facility, it was indeed larger and heavier needing almost 3 hours to erect and another to internally fit out. Medical equipment would be transported while sensitive items would be shuttled down and when he looked at the list, there was a sizeable quantity to go down.
On the plus side of all this Amanda was going down to the surface too, maybe there would be a chance to catch up there during down time. He looked at the weather reports and it didn't look good, flying could be rough but the pilots were trained for it. It was not uncommon in situations like this for pilots to stay with the craft they had been assigned, some even went so far as sleeping in it because it was the only place they felt comfortable enough to do it. In light of taking shuttles there was room for sleeping in the back.
He'd briefed the pilots as best he could and though there were some grumbles because of the exchange of fighters to shuttles most were happy for the change. Weapon sleds were fitted on 4 of the shuttles, defensive only but considering he knew the marine element of the mission he wanted to be able to provide air support if needed. Better to have something and not need it, then need it and not have it. A saying that had worked in his favour many times in the past.
"Report for you CAG." One of his pilots handed him an update.
"Thanks." He looked it over, a standard update on supplies that needed to be shuttled down, some medical passengers along with what couldn't be beamed down, weapon supplies from security since a shuttle could be secured and communications equipment for planet to ship lines. "Make sure that the weapons from security are made safe for transport and everything from medical is secured and whoever comes with it stays with it."
Zan returned to his desk where the hot cup of Coffee there had turned cold, just something about cold Coffee was wrong so he replicated a new one. He thought about contacted Amanda to see if she wanted to do something later since he wasn't sure when she would get off duty or if she would be in the mood to do anything after a busy day.
Amanda,
Not sure when you get off shift with all the prep we have to do. I was wondering if you wanted to grab a bite somewhere outside home, Holodeck, arboretum or something.
Let me know
Zan
