Mission:
Not All Changes Are Welcome.
Location: Promenade.
Timeline: Just before departure.
The summons had come as such a surprise to her that she'd not been able to focus on her packing or her assignments. She was Starving . Starving to the point where she could think of nothing else but food. However, she had no specific cravings. "Thanks for that" she muttered to her belly, stroking it fondly.
The mercurial silver of her curls that dangled down her back, caught the light and glittered as she took herself to the Promenade. She was struck by the sounds, as she always was but the woman paused to take in the Smells. Before she knew it, she was in front of a cafe she didn't recognize. But she smelled Bacon. Maple syrup. Yeast. Fruit sweetness. Roasted nuts. Her eyes opened briefly, and then she tapped her comm badge.
"Acacia to Amelie"
There was no answer and the Doctor worried her bottom lip, and worried there might be something wrong with her friend.
"Computer, alter to leave message."
"Message recording."
"My nose led me to a new little cafe on the promenade as I was about to perish from hunger. If you care to join me for some lunch you can find me at Deserted Stars." A faint chuckle left her lips as the pun in the name made its way through her hunger to the forefront of her brain. That's so clever!
Leaving it out of her brain for a moment, the Doctor did what she did best these days, she followed her nose into the cafe. The selection was small, but it was easy enough to choose a maple bacon pastry and a green goddess sandwich. The sandwich ended up being a delightful mashup of avocado, cucumber, herbs and wide leaf lettuce. The bread had a spicy cheese baked into it, and the surprise was the bright snap of a sliced strawberry in the center.
She took the plate when it was offered to her through a rippling pane of plate glass. The smell made her stomach do backflips, and she hurried to the empty table that she'd claimed with her eyes when she first entered. Her first bite had her eyes closing in bliss, blessing the progenitors themselves for granting this gift of creation to the chef.
The words to the song drifted to her ears something in the soulful lyrics making her pause in her chewing.
'I want you to know that I'm never leaving
Cause I'm Mrs. Snow, 'til death we'll be freezing
Yeah you are my home, my home for all seasons
So come on let's go
Let's go below zero and hide from the sun
I love you forever where we'll have some fun
Yes, let's hit the North Pole and live happily
Please don't cry no tears now
It's Christmas, baby
My snowman and me
My snowman and me
Baby...'
The food blurred before her eyes, and she had to swallow hard against a lump that was not made up of the food in her mouth. Acacia bent her head to hide the sudden outpouring of emotions that threatened to overwhelm her, for she was so strongly hammered by guilt she could barely breathe. It wasn't fair t hat she was doing this alone. Hell, you only hope that he'd be happy about this turn of events.
She hadn't sent a message yesterday, for she'd come out of surgery- sat down and had woken with her morning alarm in the damnedest most uncomfortable position she could imagine. Her neck still ached from the positions
Eyes bright with tears raised to the glimmering stars and she whispered even as a single diamond bright tear drifted down her cheek to be swept away by her fingertips. "I miss you Jack Frost." My snowman...
