Mission:
New Faces and Terror Beyond
Location: Bawden Quarters
I woke up to find myself still on the sofa wrapped up in a blanket, feet dangling over the opposing arm rest and an uncomfortable cramp in the legs as a result. A glass of water put on the nearby table by Ayla soon gave my throat the moisture it needed and the refreshing kick start to help me sit up. I couldn't see Ayla so I slowly stood up half expected the wrath of the Mrs to descend upon me for moving when I could have just called her for what ever I wanted......Nothing!!!
I walked into the Bedroom and it was tidy and squared away, I don't know why I didn't ask the computer for her location, probably didn't occur to me at the time but I walked through the rooms and that is when I found her. She was sleeping on Miracles bed, in her hand Marcie's teddybear.
I didn't want to wake her, I could see she was hurting. I walked back to my uncomfortable sofa bed and grabbed the blanket which I then put gently over Ayla. It's not that I worried she'd be cold, the room was at a comfortable temperature but to me it felt like the right thing to do. I walked into the Kitchen and began to cook something to eat. I didn't know about Ayla but I was hungry and my hope was that I could cook this and serve before she woke up, placate the beast before it strikes with food. At least, that was the hope anyway.
The problem with me cooking however, as with most marines or former is that quantity often goes out the window. I had a habit of making enough to feed 8 to 12 people so when I cooked there was always left overs to spare. Now being the culinary creator that I am....sort of, I made chicken, battered fish, pasta, rice, potato, gallons of gravy because no meal is complete without gravy AND!!!!! Yorkshire pudding. A big one, huge. Now yeah that was a bit of a selection I admit but I was guilty of repeatedly sampling the goods as I cooked them.
I was so glad we had a large table, it took 7 large sized preheated plates, because I hated putting hot food on a cold plate to fit everything. Water, Orange juice and something else I found in the 'not really there' alcohol storage.
The mixed smells wafted through the place, that I admit was one thing I forgot to consider but it was done now, served up and ready to go. Now time to face the music or the kisses, which ever came first.
Walking from the Kitchen I gave the table one final look over, everything was good, everything was in its proper place. I even had a candle in the middle going. I can be such a romantic at times. I proceeded to Ayla and gave her a very gentle shake of the shoulder..."Ayla, babe?"
Now the moment of truth.
