A Change of Pace

533 words; about a 3 minute read

Mission: Ethics, Morals & The Prime Directive.
Location: Bridge
Timeline: Current

Cassian was at his station looking over power allocation levels to the various sections of the ship, the figures themselves far exceeded anything he'd seen before but the ship was far from the usual norm of starship design. He was thankful for his large team there were observing the more general and routine sections of the ship and the requirements that came from them, with so many decks and systems it would be a nightmare for a smaller team to handle so many duties.

Already his department were being flooded with requests from things ranging from power allocations or fabrication and manufacturing processes. It was not that such tasks were demanding but considering the reports he was seeing about the repairs and manufacture of replacement parts to whole new fighters it was something that wouldn't be resolved swiftly or anytime soon.

Cassian thought about how his team was handling the field of demands placed upon it and it was clear to see from whom the experience was most predominant as some officers were helping other teams with input and suggestions on tasks not assigned to them.

It was that kind of leadership that was needed in a demanding and task-filled moment such as this. It also showed him a prime example of the kinds of officers he'd need in the future when things got tough and a step up was in order.

"Lt.Massy to Manufacturing, power allocations have been approved. Please advise when no longer required."

Production plants were lighting up the display board with the need for new parts fabrication requests which was to be expected after an incident resulting in armed conflict.

Even though his department worked closely with Engineering in keeping the many ship's functions and systems in working order having heard about what happened he held a mild relief that the Dreadnought herself had not been attacked.

"Operations to armoury. Approval for munitions manufacture has been granted, and safety systems have been engaged." When munitions were manufactured, mostly for the fighter wing or reloads for the micro torpedo turrets on the ship, safety was vital. Last thing Cassian wanted was for an accident to take place and the results would be disastrous.

When Cassian sat at his desk looking at the reports and requests streaming in he could see them sliding off to various rows of the many teams he had working. The computer assigns tasks based on skill sets and current workload to ensure efficiency and results which were then monitored by team leaders.

While this all felt like a well-oiled machine of process Cassian worried that he'd be surplus to requirement, nothing more than a person in the seat 'leading' the way, in some way.

There was a somber feeling to all these requests though, there he was safe in the armoured hull of the ship while others were going out there for duty and some not coming back. He didn't even know many of these people and all he'd see is a line of text, another requisition, another part to replace something that was lost. Was this always how it was going to be?

A line of text, like a bookkeeper, another entry, another request.
