Mission:
Let That Be Your Last
Location: Sam's Quarters
Timeline: Current
Wolfe had taken on many of the command responsibilities during the Major's recovery, and the news of her survival was met with relief. There were murmurs about throwing a welcome back party or sending her a get well soon gesture, but everyone knew the Major's preferences, so those plans never materialized. Still, Wolfe intended to convey the good intentions behind those thoughts. The ground mission had seen significant casualties, but they accomplished their objectives, and the losses, along with the rescued captives and neutralized enemy, made their sacrifices worthwhile. Wolfe felt the urge to check in on Sam; he knew how restless marines could get in Sickbay, and he imagined she was no exception.
Equipped with updates and two PADDs, Wolfe left Sam's office and headed to her quarters, relying on the computer for directions since he had never been there before.
Upon reaching her door, he pressed the chime to announce his presence, even though it was an unexpected visit.
Sam wasn't anticipating any visitors, but a break from the silence was a welcome change. With her duties on hold for a while, anything to distract her from the monotony was appreciated. "Come in."
As the doors slid open, Wolfe looked up from the PADD, momentarily surprised by the sudden entrance. "Major, is this a bad time?" he asked, standing in the doorway.
"Wolfe," Sam replied, gesturing for him to enter. "What brings you here?"
Wolfe stepped inside, allowing the doors to close behind him, a grin spreading across his face. "Fortunately, I’m pretty sure Bianca and Penelope won’t hear about my visit to your quarters."
Sam chuckled, acknowledging his point. "True enough. So, what do you have for me?"
"I thought you might want to stay updated on things while you're off duty, so you won't feel out of the loop. You don’t have to, but I figured it might help pass the time while you’re stuck in here or in Sickbay," Wolfe explained. "I know being sidelined can be tough."
"Absolutely, but let me tell you, being served tea by the Admiral was quite the experience," Sam laughed.
"The Admiral?" Wolfe asked, surprised. "I didn't realize we had one on board."
"Admiral S'iraa," Sam clarified. "He was the commanding officer of this ship back in the day. He came to see me; we served together under his command."
That made sense to Wolfe, a piece of information he would remember for later. "I haven't had the chance to meet him."
"You wouldn't be able to miss him; you'd recognize him even without his flag uniform," Sam replied. "But I appreciate the update; I hate feeling out of the loop." She paused for a moment before asking, "How are the crew holding up?"
"Mixed feelings, really. Tensions are still running high after all the losses we've faced," Wolfe responded, elaborating on other issues affecting the department. "I've started some light training to help the men refocus, something to help them get back into a routine."
"You should also check in with the Quartermaster about supplies. It's safe to assume we lost quite a bit during the ground engagement and in the interim," Sam suggested, adjusting her position for comfort.
Wolfe nodded, acknowledging the Major's need to recover and rest. "I'll tackle that next," he said, sensing it was time to step back. "I won't keep you any longer. Please take care of yourself, and if you require anything, just reach out. I hope it’s alright, but I’ve set up camp in your office for now while I recover."
"Sure, just don't mess with the chair, I like that chair." Sam wouldn't go into why, but she just did.
"Major." Wolfe smiled and with a nod, walked out the door to continue his duties.
