Mission: New Faces and Terror Beyond
Location: Dreadnought's Sickbay

Following the attack where 4 marines were killed and 7 injured including Samantha they were beamed directly to the Dreadnought for treatment. The attack by the wild animal came completely by surprise with sensors failing to relay for what ever reason. They were depending on the Dreadnoughts stronger sensors to give them information but they didn't get any.

The animal was large and fast but there was more than one of them which lead them to believe there was a nest nearby. Sam was one of the first hit and first to go down, a horrific slash across her abdomen and her side. If it wasn't for her tight fitting webbing what was inside her body may have exited. The pain was excruciating, all she saw while laying in the mud, rain cascading down upon her was blinding eye clinching pain. The battle was brief but costly, Sam felt a dul pain to the thigh and then everything seemed to fade away. Morphine.

Next thing she knew she was on board the ship, familiar lights shining down upon her. Then black again.

When Samantha woke up again it was to the sound of bleeping medical monitoring equipment, dimmed lights but otherwise quiet. What she didn't know what that some digging had been made. Colonel Frost had informed Sickbay that the person that could be considered a next of kin was Annabelle. Sickbay sent a message to inform her of the situation and requested her presence.

Annabelle paced the full length of the bed, glancing at Samantha with worry and concern. She hummed a soft tune that was meant to be comforting, yet it sounded odd since it was mixed in with the odd medical machines chirps and beeps that made the tune disjointed.

Seeing Samantha eyes flutter open, she rushed to her side. She knelt next to the bio-bed gently taking Samantha's hand in her grasp. "I'm here, Sammy! I'll make sure you get the best treatment possible!" She brushed her lips against Samantha's cheek. "I nearly had a heart attack when I heard you was back prematurely. Don't worry. I'll make the Marines keep you on, even if its patrolling and slogging through paperwork. I'll be there to help you." Annabelle nodded as she babbled with concern. "No one treats my baby like a cast off doll that lost favor. I even gave you some of my blood to make sure you had more than a fighting chance! In fact you can have it all as long as it makes you better." She nodded with determination. "I can always make more."

Sam held Annabelle's hand very firmly and even though she was still heavily sedated there was still a measure of discomfort. All she could remember was the attack, the screams, weapons fire and the pain. A tear worked its way from the corner of her eye down her cheek towards her ear. She knew she was on board the ship but even now she felt uneasy, as if something would leap out from a bulkhead, round a corner or drop unseen from the light above her. "I remember.....everything." Her voice was dry and croaky from her operation.

"Shshsh.. Don't speak." Annabelle voice was filled with concern as she got a glass with a straw after breaking contact with Samantha. She inserted the straw so that Samantha could take a drink. "I'm here now. And you're safe aboard the Dreadnought. I'm sure Winters will bring the pelt of what ever attacked you for your new fur rug." She kept her voice soft and soothing.

Sam drank but a little, enough to sooth her rough throat. She wanted to talk more but was cut off by the Doctor. "I'm sorry to disturb you, the monitors indicated you were awake. I came to check up on you."

The Doctor checked over the monitors and noted down the readings, even gave Samantha a check over too. "Your injuries have been healed, if it wasn't for your marine gear it would have been a lot worse. You had several lacerations deep into the hypodermis layer and muscle layer, there was some internal organ damage but we have mended everything. However you will be stiff and sore for the next few days while cellular microsutures hold the muscles together. The wounds were cleaned so no chance of infection. You should make a full and complete recovery." That said she then excused herself to enter the readings taken into her report.

Annabelle looked relieved as she re-grasped Samantha's hand after the Doctor took Samantha's vitals. "There whont be any scars to remember the incident by." She reached out and smoothed back Samantha's hair out of her face with a gentle loving caress.

"I will remember." Sam spoke softly, almost a whisper. She'd lost friends, one of which she saw a promising future in, even had the paperwork for a commission on her desk waiting to be handed in. Now it was too late. Her hold on Annabelle's hand firm again but silence lingered. It was clear this was not just a shock to her physically but also mentally, her confidence was shot and her emotions a mess.

Annabelle was at loss as she had somehow gotten the report on Samantha's predicament. At the moment all she could provide morale support by being there. She gave thought to their future together as she did soul searching on what had brought them together. Was it the exciting adventurous life that Samantha led? Was it the spark of something more profound that drove her to be with Samantha. Now it was she wanted to be there, because she was concerned for her and wanted Samantha be well both physically and mentally.

Annabelle sat in the chair close by and within easy sight of Samantha while she held her hand.
