Mission: New Faces and Terror Beyond
Location: Perimeter Patrol

After speaking with Winters they decided to work in opposite directions in circle around the camp, this would cover the area quicker and they had sensor relay from the Dreadnoughts more powerful sensors because something in the area was screwing up tricorders. In most cases that was fine because sometimes technology was faulty, it was bad to become too dependant on technology and in this case the old Mark 1 Eyeball would be back up. With the link from the ship though everything seemed clear bar one or two areas.

Orders were simple, scout, remove hostile creatures from the area, make sure locals were safe and that a supply route was available to the river. It seemed easy enough but that was about to change.

They had been on patrol for almost an hour with nothing much to note, two creatures kills and several scattered away from the camp. At first sensor readings indicated heat blooms about a hundred yards ahead, many of them. As they closed the distance things picked up a pace, sensor relay went down.

=^= Snyder to Luthar, we just lost sensor feeds, can you confirm and check for us? =^=

Losing sensors now was unfortunate but they had at least some information, direction and range. "Steady, watch spacings and eyes open." Sam spoke through the throat strapped communications. She unclipped the rifle from the shoulder clasp and held it level to the ground ready to use.

Seconds later things went to hell, the hunters had become the hunted. They'd walked right into a nest.

Samantha was one of the first to go down, all she saw was a blur, a creature shooting past her and weapons fire and shouting. She heard the cries of others but couldn't see anyone because the bushes were too tall to see from a laying position. She let go of the breath she'd been holding on to and the following pain made her wish she held onto it. He hands clutched her side and they felt wet. She tried not to move but she needed to see her injury and it wasn't pretty.

A massive gash to her side straight through her combat webbing and uniform, if it wasn't for the webbing what ever was inside would be spilling out. She didn't know how long she'd been laying there and she didn't even notice the fighting had stopped so the first instance that things were looking up was a dull pain in her thigh and then everything felt wonderful.

First aid bandages were applied, rifles were strapped together to make stretchers and hand phasers were weapons of the moment. She felt the quick jolting of being carried, the rain showering down upon her.

"Medical emergency, we have wounded. Beam them to the ship."

The final words before she left the coldness of rain and wind for the familiar smell and sounds of a starship.
