Mission: Unknown Life, Unknown Dangers
Location: Sickbay

:: Engineering ::

"You know wha' amazes meh?" Commander James O'Connell finally said from inside of the access junction from engineering towards the warp nacelle intake valve on the port side of the ship. His voice was almost muffled, "How much build up can happen on da warp intake valve..."

"I told you sir, we could handle that besides don't you want to beam down to the surface of the planet and visit your family I don't know how long we are going to be in orbit of Earth." The young Ensign Terry remarked from the entrance to the junction.

James shrugged, "An' I told you... I saw 'em a few weeks earlier an' I doubt you've met an Irish family they're loud and obnoxious." He reached across and closed the final port into the intake valve before disconnecting it. "Hand meh da grinder." He stuck his hand out.

After he felt the grinding tool in his hand he reached back inside of the junction and began grinding away at the mess that was the intake junction.

"You also need to report to sickbay." Terry said grimly, "And, I doubt that they will wait much longer for you to play around inside the various junctions.

"Fine you win Ensign." He said defeated and crawled out of the junction handing the grinder over, "Jus' make certain that the work is done before I get back."

:: Sickbay ::

James entered sickbay, "Lieutenant Commander James O'Connell reportin' for my medical examination. Sorry that it took meh so long to get down here Doctor."

"Of course, right this way." Xavier lead the Commander to a vacant bio bed. "Take a seat." He called up the Commanders records. "Anything you want to report before we start?"

James considered the question for a little bit before finally responding, "Nothin' Doctor."

"Ok, let's begin." Xavier began activating systems to get medical readings. "Any discomforts, dietary needs, previous injuries causing problems?"

"Besides the occasional headache from lack o' coffee no discomforts Doc."

"Ok, I'll begin." Xavier ran the many tests required of pre-assignment joining, base line comparisons from known records, new baseline readings now he was on the Dreadnought, blood sample, weight and mass checks and all of which were routine. "Being an engineer exposed to warp cores when was you last radiation screening?"

He thought about it for a moment tapping the base of his chin for a few seconds. "Abou' two months ago." He thought a little while longer and gave a stiff nod, "Yeah abou' two months ago. An' t'was low to almost nothin'."

"I'll schedule another and a review of Engineering now that I've taken over as CMO I better step up to the bar." Xavier looked at the row of monitors. "Blood pressure if fine, weight is a little on the heavy side for your height and build, have you been eating properly, eating late or skipping meals?"

"I do have a sligh' tendency to skip a meal or two an', eat late from time ta time." He put up a slight grin, "I will work on tha' Doctor."

"Please do." Xavier made a note of it in the records. The remainder of the checks came back within norms. "Ill document the results now and I'll call you back in in a month." Walking to a wall monitor he closed it off. "I'll take a blood sample and run tests on it, in the mean time you are fit for duty Commander." Xavier gave a brief pause. "Please inform your department I'll be conducting a radiation screenings of all persons within the department."

"Understoo' Doctor." And, James jumped off the biobed gently before making his way out of sickbay.
