Mission: The Emerald Road
Location: XO's Office/Bridge

Anika sighed and rubbed between her eyes with a heavily henna'd fingertip. A tiny alert beeped on her PADD and she glanced down to see that the last transport had made it to the Indy. Indefatigable was too much of a mouthful, and she tired of trying to pronounce it correctly.

"Computer- access primary crew compliment."

"Crew compliment- 221"

"What is the current count- crewmembers aboard?"

"Current count-227"

"Explain discrepancy" Her brows furrowed and she had to bite her lip to keep her frustration in check.

"Crew from Shuttle Seine still aboard and offloading."

"Ah. Have all scheduled shipments reached us at this time?"

"Negative- transport pods are still being received by Engineering's Maintenance division. Cargo bays 2 and 3 are currently being loaded into. "

"Text notification Utopia Planetia Shipyards- if the transport pods are still aboard by the time our crew has boarded we will leave with them still aboard and unload while underway. Signed Anika Yashui, Commander. XO USS Indefatigable"

"Message sent"

"Computer inquiry hypothetical." Anika said after a long moment of thought. This idea had been percolating in her head for a long time, but now it became clearer.

The computer beeped an acknowledgement of her inquiry and she continued "Is it possible to link a personal bioscan to each combadge signature in order to scan and retrieve crew members without commbadges?"

"The possibility exists for such a linkage. "

What would the implementation of such a system require? The collaboration of medical security and transport officers. Each crew member would have to be scanned individually and that bioscan would then have to be programmed into each combadge and stored in the computer transport buffer so that an immediate comparison could be made. A separate isolinear grid system would need to be set up in order to store the pattern buffers without detriment to the computer operations and transport system."

"How would that affect the day-to-day operations of the ship, if we were to have the separate icolinear system?"

"There's a possibility of a slow down in transporter operations, the pattern lock and buffer system could take longer to reinitialize, and ship sensors would also decrease in scanning speed for this particular variable. "

"Would it then theoretically be possible to track and transport and officer from an enemy vessel with just that stored bio signature?"

"That possibility exists."

"Could the system be modified in order to ensure that only authorized Personnel are aboard any Starfleet ship?"

"That possibility exists. "

Annika set back in her chair toying with the end of her braids as she pondered the idea she just put to the computer. "Computer please compile feasibility and analysis for all three hypothetical questions and send it to the heads of security and science. I would like their input. Has the Shuttle Seine disembarked?"

"Affirmative."

Walking out onto the bridge from her tiny office, she smiled at the officer of the deck. Settling into the Command Chair she poked a button on the seat to see the status board. Only one red dot. Good. "Begin prelaunch diagnostic sequences. Lets get out of here as soon as possible."

A 'yes ma'am' reached her ears as she gazed at the viewscreen, showing the red curve of Mars. She didn't care who'd said it so long as it got done.
