Time with the Troops

Mission: The Emerald Road
Location: Marine Deck

Rumors flew through the deck with a lot of groans of Fleet invading their Turf. Amanda paused in her rounds to eves drop on a conversation around the corner.

"Ole Zipper got a break today." A Marine Corporal spoke to his compatriots.

"How so?" Another Corporal spoke, curiously.

"Looks like CAG brought in some flyboys that needed a little extra duty." First Corporal replied. "Colonel gave them to Gunny Sore-Tooth." Using QM's not so complimentary nickname as he was always in a foul mood.

"Zipper got a break from being in his presence?" Another Corporal spoke up, sounding a bit let down as Zipper was one of his problem children.

"Yeah. But we'll see how long it last though. Let's see if Zipper can put his time to good use." First Corporal spoke up.

Amanda smiled as she wouldn't be dealing with a bunch of snot-nosed Fly boys officers. But then soon coming up was another Holo-Deck Training Maneuvers for the troops. She was glad that Zipper was able to make it. For he was gunner on the crew served machine gun that her platoon needed to help defend the objective the rest of the detachment was attacking.

She made a noise to alert the Corporals she was coming and appeared to them. She nodded to them. "How's the prep coming for upcoming maneuvers?"

"Just finished the PCI's, except Zippers. There was a change of plans for him." Zipper's Team Leader spoke up. "He's playing catch-up."

"Hope the rest of his team is helping him out." Amanda smiled a bit as she looked at Zipper's Team Leader.

He nodded. "He's still part of the Team. I was on my way to make sure he was ready."

Amanda nodded. She knew Zipper was a problem child in his own right. But occasionally he crossed the line to land in trouble. He would go far if he could control his impulsiveness at times. "After the maneuvers when the gear is stowed. Send him to me."

She couldn't let things slide with reprieve from punishment duty that his team, squad leaders imposed on him to teach him the errors of his ways. His team leader saw the look in Amanda's eyes and held his council.

"I'll let the squad leader know, Sergeant Winters." Corporal spoke up, then departed to oversee the troops.

She had a good crew and would be interesting to how things turned out.
