Mission:
New Faces and Terror Beyond
Location: Sickbay I.C.U
At first I heard the bleeping of monitors, I felt stiff, groggy and a thumping headache. It was dark in the room but I could only open my eyes a little bit. My throat was dry and course like I'd been sucking on Ghandi's slipper for a week straight. I heard a voice but I didn't recognise it, female I knew that much because the pitch was much higher than a male voice.
Xavier reviewed the medical notes from the operation when the Nurse came in and told him that the Commander was coming round. "Great, I will be right there." He just needed to finish this paragraph in case it held anything he needed to know for post-op recovery. Satisfied that everything was ok he stood up and walked into the Commander's room. "Commander...It's Doctor Patrovski, can you hear me?"
I heard something, blurred, male this time. I squeezed my eyes shut hoping my vision would clear but these ocular implants just didn't want to cooperate. "Wha...." I softly spoke.
"Take it easy Mark, you suffered a brain aneurysm. We treated you almost immediately."
"Ay...la."
"Safe at home with the children." Xaiver glanced at the monitors and saw everything was doing well. I'm taking you off active duty for a while until you have recovered. You will need to come in for a periodic angiography just to make sure everything is going smoothly." Xavier answered as he took a seat next to Mark. "You need to manage your stress better Mark, what happened today was serious, you scared Ayla."
I know I did, how could I not and he was right, I really did need to keep my stress in check but I always was one to bottle it up until I exploded. I guess this time the body just had enough of that game. I really needed to open up more and if this wasn't proof of that then I don't know what would be.
"I'm going to give you some medication, take twice a day, every day. I'll let Ayla know." Xavier added as he looked through the information. "You had a serious bleed Mark, I can't say your free of risk because you never are after the first one. I'm considering having you run a course of sessions with the Counsellor to address your stress."
Great, pour my heart out to some lass that probably doesn't need to hear my problems. Not that I could do anything about it and I knew that, Doc's orders were Doc's orders and if he said something, it happened. "Fine." I wasn't happy about it but laying down in my state, I was hardly in a position to argue.
"Get some rest, I will let Ayla know you are awake." Xavier felt sorry for Mark, deep down he knew the guy meant well and always the protector type. Perhaps it would be difficult for him to go from protector to protected.
