Mission: New Faces and Terror Beyond
Location: Planetside

OOC: Really sorry I missed this, not sure how I could have to be honest. - No worries -

SSG Winters looked up at entrance to the Command tent and saw Major Snyder enter. She had been planning the next search grid to be searched out and coordinating with one of the smaller shuttles to ferry troops. She was a bit thrown off as Colonel Frost didn't show up. Then she remembered Colonel Frost was Acting XO.

"Major." Winters spoke drawing the attention of Major Snyder to her. She smiled as this meant she could get out and snog in the mud with the rest of the troops. "Just in time enjoy the liquid sunshine of this mud ball." She moved from the display board that she was using. "Can someone give me an update on the weather?" Louder to address those in the tent.

"Forecast for the next 24 hours. Cloudy and wet. Looks like it's Monsoon season here." A fleeter in Science Blue spoke up at one of consoles spoke up. "We're still getting sesmic after shocks. Hopefully nothing to serious."

"Most of the shelters have been put up and the hospital is operational but needs extensions put to it. Lt Luthar is using the shuttles as secure storage until we can get something up ourselves." Sam spoke as she too looked at the consoles. "I suppose we should go out and take a look at what we are facing if we are to keep the civs alive and well." Anything to keep her active she didn't mind, weather was crap for it but a job was a job and she'd do it regardless.

SSG Winters nodded, slinging on her gear over the wet weather gear she wore. She pulled one of the assault carbines off the rack near the door. Then waited for the Major leave behind anything she didn't want to carry for the quick tour of the base they've set up.

Webbing on and rifle in hand Samantha was set to go, everything in her bag was mostly food, first aid and clothing. The had basic supplies in her webbing around her body but since they would not be going far there was no need to haul almost 40lbs of gear around.

The shuttles were in the field next to the line of tents that were for the troops with a road or the widening path down the center between Marine Section and Field Hospital where Civilians were already forming a line out from the main entrance to the field hospital. Marines patrolled in pairs up and down the path to keep the arriving civilians peaceful while they waited for treatment. There was a field kitchen already in action providing hot drinks for anyone passing by. There were four raised bunkers high enough give full 360 degree coverage and support for each other at each corner of area that was designated for the base of operations.

There was a few civilian work crews under watch of the Marines, putting up prefab buildings for general usage as needed. The civilians were old men and women just past the age where they couldn't stand up to the rigors of combat or deprivation of extended voyages, yet useful still in other things. Some had crude prosthesis for missing natural legs and arms. Young children sat huddled under what shelter they could find or been put up for them. Few ran about playing and being curious about the newcomers with wide eyes laced with fear, yet showing a bravado of those more active.

SSG Winters escorted Major Snyder through the base camp, attentive while she showed the set up. "Need another platoon when we start heading out to the settlements camps. These people are from the closest settlement, Two klicks down the hill towards the river you seen on the map. They are living in what ever shelter they could make for their people."

"There are still squads beaming down from the ship, we had to kick a few back to make way for extra supplies for camp. I would say group everyone together but doing that we run the risk of something breaking out over simple things. If we can get accurate readings of what settlements are where we may be able to beam down prefabs for them to put up, at least for the time being until the rain stops." Sam spoke. When people were desperate things got hostile, Sam wanted to avoid that by dotting about the population but sooner or later flocks would swarm here with the knowledge of a hospital facility. That made it a priority to keep safe.

SSG Winters nodded, coming to a stop at the edge of the base camp. "Once the shuttles stop ferrying supplies. We can put prefabs in that area temp housing for these people as we alert each settlement."

"Agreed. May even use them to heavy lift them into position." Samantha spoke.

Winters looked back at the milling people within the base camp. Those helping, waiting for treatment and being just a pain in the butt by their mere presence. "Problem is there is none of the ages that can do the seriously heavy lifting to help rebuild their community. Just the very young and old. A few that are of age are mentally deficient and or crippled badly."

"We will have to see if we can spare some or if Engineering can send a team, cycle them through the zones that need prefabs built." It was a rough idea, without knowing how long they would be doing this for it was hard to plan for the long term.

"That sounds like a good plan. I'll assign a squad of Marines to go with or meet up with the engineers." SSG winters began to lead back through the Base Camp. "You wanna take out a patrol? We're picking up life signs in sector 4," She pointed off towards planetary northwest. "Or get the ball rolling with the engineers?"

"I'll take a patrol out, at least then I'd feel like Im actually doing something marine like." Sam spoke. "Grab your squad and hit sector 3. If we split up the zones we can cover a perimeter quickly with additional squads. If we lay sensor relays high up on trees so the wildlife doesn't get to them, we may be able to establish a sensor net with the ship."

Winters nodded, giving orders over her radio. "Cyas on the flip side," With that Winters took off to get her gear and meet up with her patrol team.
